Alerta is a monitoring tool that was developed with the following goals in mind: 1) Distributed and decoupled to be scalable. 2) Minimal configuration that easily accepts alerts from any source 3) Quick at-a-glance visualization with detailed drill-downs
Alerting Contributions
One of the main advantages that Alerta offers are all the integrations it allows us to do, we can integrate it with Prometheus, Riemann, Nagios, Zabbix, netdata, Sensu, Pingdom and Cloudwatch, and in the near future we expect new integrations to be added, plus custom system integration is very easy with the API or command line tool.
Alerts are sent in JSON format to an HTTP API, and can be verified from the command line or from a web console, optimized for desktops, tablets and mobile devices, plus individual user logins can be added via Google, GitHub or GitLab Oauth and programmatic access is managed via API keys.
It offers standard deployments for AWS EC2, Vagrant, Kubernetes, Packer, Docker and Heroku, plus more complex deployments can also be made using Python packages.
What do we think of alerta?
It is an excellent tool to consolidate and de-duplicate alerts from multiple sources so that it is possible to view them in a much faster and easier way, in other words it allows us to "take a look" of different alert sources from a single screen. Which is (GREAT), it makes it much easier for us to correct errors or possible improvements by presenting us with all the information we need from a single screen.
While there may be other tools similar to this on the market, Alerta is without a doubt an invaluable piece of software to consider when choosing a software to use for a monitoring process.
